Style, serenity, and sumptuousness. What you can expect from a stay at Koh Samui’s premier villa estate – Samujana

For the luxury traveller living in Asia, there is no doubt that Koh Samui is firmly on the map. No longer just for hedonistic teenagers who stay in bargain guesthouses on Chaweng Beach and party until the early hours, Samui has undergone somewhat of a transformation of late, with high-end villas and apartments popping up across the island’s lush landscape. With daily direct flights from a growing number of Asian cities, Koh Samui is rightfully a popular choice for those who are looking for a cool and sophisticated escape from reality.

But perhaps the most talked about accommodation on the island is Samujana; a luxurious estate of villas scattered across a hillside just a 10-minute drive from Koh Samui International Airport. Designed by award-winning British architect Gary Fell the laid back yet undeniably stylish estate comprises of large and contemporary villas ranging from three- to eight- bedrooms.

They say that the devil is in the detail and at Samujana this could not be more true. While each property has been created to incorporate the needs and desires of its owner, there are inherent style elements that run through each one of the 33 villas that make the resort feel like it has all been cut from the same cloth. There has been a conscious and very successful attempt at blurring the lines between outside and in and when standing in one of the expansive entertainment spaces it’s difficult to tell exactly where you are. Only when you look up and see the incredible display of stars that the island puts on on a nightly basis do you realise that you must be outside. Inside, each villa is kitted out with branded appliances and the beautifully soft furnishings in muted, white tones are ubiquitous– though an occasional splash of colour is never too far away.

The five-bedroom spectacular Villa 30, set at the highest point of the estate, might not be the biggest on the resort but it certainly boasts the best view on the island. Walk up the spiral staircase from the ground floor where all the bedrooms are located and you’ll come to a contemporary and relaxed living space, a large infinity-edge pool and a jaw-dropping 360 degree view of the island and azure sea below.

The seven-bedroom Villa 12 has an altogether different vibe – but still manages to impress. The property of a well-known Hong Kong gym owner, the villa is a haven for those enjoy a good work out. A state-of-the-art gym with every piece of equipment you can think of, a full-size boxing ring, yoga sala, 25m infinity-edge pool and even a half basketball court are all incorporated into this accommodation.

Samujana also boasts the island’s most luxurious catamaran so if you and your group fancy a day out on the water exploring the nearby islands and perhaps doing a spot of snorkelling, it can be arranged in a flash. But if you’d prefer to stay the comfort of your villa it doesn’t mean you have to stick to the ordinary. According to the Samujana team only your imagination can limit what can be created on your behalf. One night enjoy an in-villa BBQ and DJ by your pool and the next night have Samui’s best chef create a pop-up restaurant experience, exclusively for you and your group.

The real beauty of a stay at Samujana is the flexibility and bespoke service it can offer. You can do as much or as little as you like. Want to get married at one of the villas and have your family and friends stay on the estate? It can be arranged. Or prefer complete seclusion for a few days of relaxation. That’s fine too.

Samujana has just completed its second phase of development and a limited number of units are now available for purchase. For more information on this or to book a bespoke villa stay in Samui go to:
