E-commerce entrepreneur, fashion editor, model, international style icon and New York native Olivia Palermo is well versed in wearing a multitude of metaphorical hats. The Reserve caught up with the doe-eyed style maven during her recent trip to Shanghai where she was guest of honour at the launch of US diamond brand Hearts On Fire in China.

Where does your love of jewellery come from?

Both my mother and my aunt have a background in jewellery so I was exposed to it from a very young age. I was fortunate enough to travel with them to antique tradeshows around the world so I became knowledgeable about the industry and gained a bit of an eye for unique creations.

Which piece holds the most sentimental value to you?

The gold Rolex my mother gave me on my 21st birthday is really special. I also like to collect beautiful vintage jewellery because each piece tells a story. Whenever I’m in London I go to Portobello Market so I can add to my collection.

How do you feel about being invited to help launch Hearts On Fire in China?

I was absolutely delighted to accept the invitation from Adrian Cheng and CEO Glenn Rothman and be part of the brand’s eagerly anticipated entry into China. Each piece is lovingly designed and features some of the world’s most beautiful diamonds. The couture lines are unbelievably stunning and I expect to see huge demand for them among Asia’s jewellery aficionadas.

What do you think makes Hearts On Fire diamonds so special?

The unique cutting technique means that every single diamond in a Hearts On Fire piece has a distinctive sparkle. The diamonds are selected from less than one-tenth of one percent of the world’s rough diamonds so you can be sure you’re getting something very special regardless of the piece you choose.

How do you think the Asian consumer will react to the brand?

Hearts On Fire is known as the jewellery of choice by many Hollywood stars so I can only imagine that it will be extremely popular here as the demand for diamond jewellery increases. The designs are beautiful and can be quite daring but I think this will appeal to the discerning market here.

Name three things in your closet you could never get rid of.

If I had to choose I’d say an amazing pair of heels, a chic, classic watch and an impeccably tailored blazer.

What piece of jewellery should all women invest in?

Something that makes a statement! A bold necklace, cocktail ring or great bracelet can be worn with any outfit to dress it up and add a polished touch.

One piece of advice to people looking to emulate your style…

Be organised! Keep all your jewellery and accessories in a clutter free box and then it’s easy to pair the right pieces with your outfit.

Hearts On Fire opened its first standalone image store in Shanghai at the end of 2014 and will expand to Beijing, Nanjing and Guangzhou in early 2015. The company also plans to open points of sale in Hong Kong and Macau during 2015.
