The 6th edition…
On Thursday, 24 March 2016, members of The Reserve were among the fortunate guests in attendance at a private dinner event with Dr. Uli Sigg, the Swiss businessman, diplomat and art collector who in 2012 donated the bulk of his Chinese art collection to M+. At the time, the 1,510 pieces, including 47 works that the museum bought separately, were appraised at over US$167 million, a value that will have no doubt risen in the four years since. You can read more about Dr. Sigg and the M+ SIGG COLLECTION: FOUR DECADES OF CONTEMPORARY ART here.
The exclusive dinner was organized by Ayaltis, the Swiss Hedge Fund founded by Son Nguyen, in partnership with CONSIGG, the fine art consultancy founded by Benjamin Sigg, and the Chinese Contemporary Art Award (CCAA) founded in 1997 by Uli Sigg. The dinner series draws attention to the International Art scene and the link between Art and Finance.
Great food, great wine, great company and all around amazing art: this was the motto of the dinner, and no doubt the 90 selected guests enjoyed the evening. The honorable guests – Mrs. Helena Storm, Sweden’s new Consul General to Hong Kong and Macau, Dr. Uli Sigg, Ms. Anna Liu Li, Director of CCAA, artists like Ni Youyu and Konstantin Bessmertny mingled with the art lovers celebrities and socialites during this memorable event. Larry’s List co-founder and director, Mr. Christoph Noe, moderated an interview with uber collector Dr. Uli Sigg asking him challenging and very entertaining questions that gave a very unique insight into the collection but also the personality of Sigg.
Shanghai based artist Ni Youyu was also in attendance as Dr. Sigg was presented with the first in a limited edition series of iPad stands designed by the artist exclusively for ETEAQ (read more here). Set in teak wood, Ni Youyu’s design is laser-engraved on sustainable teak panels reclaimed from old Javanese houses. This series is limited to 888 numbered pieces, each with a certificate of authenticity signed by Ni Youyu.
The crowd also enjoyed the cheerful entertainment by the “VOSSA” duo that brought a great vibe and atmosphere to the evening. Barrie Goodridge was the master of the ceremony leading the guest through the gala dinner.
